EMPOWER was founded by Alana Frogley and Katie Keating to help support youth and our communities in finding simple, accessible, healthy ways to bring greater peace, balance + joy to our lives.
We are seeing more and more youth and adults struggling with anxiety, due to living in a world of over-stimulation & constantly on the go.
By offering simple tools we can all use to balance our minds, bodies and souls, we find greater peace + joy. We do this by exploring the science behind how our bodies and emotions work, habits of mind and meta-cognitive awareness, so we can better understand ourselves, others, and manage challenging situations in healthy ways. We work with our breath and yoga to help find greater peace, improve focus, get better rest, gain greater self-awareness, and experience more joy every day!
We focus on five key areas:
CONNECTION – mind + body
AWARENESS– of the self + relationships
CREATIVITY – problem solving + flexible thinking
RESILIENCE – tools to embrace challenges
COMMUNITY – collaboration skills, diversity + inclusion
Children are naturally drawn to the simple practices of yoga and mindfulness, and these tools become foundations for healthy coping skills for the rest of their lives. Watching children bring these practices into their daily lives and share it with their families brings us such joy!
Founders + Instructors
Alana Frogley is one of the Co-Founders of EMPOWER Mindful Movement. She is also the School Programs lead instructor and Social Media manager. Having worked in public education for nearly a decade, Alana has worked with an incredibly diverse range of students. In more recent years, she began to notice a significant gap in our public education system. “We knew how to teach our students 1+1 = 2, but we did not have the skills yet to show our students how to be at home in their bodies—enough to grasp onto what we were offering them on an intellectual level.” This gap in service is what led Alana to pursue her certifications as a Children’s Yoga Teacher, and 200HR Yoga Teacher. Alana is a highly empathic teacher, deeply attuned to the needs of all students. She is a firm believer in the neuroplasticity of the brain, and in the resilience of the human spirit. Alana’s own personal transformation (she is happily 7 years sober) is proof of the healing power of Yoga + Mindfulness for people of all ages and abilities. She received her 200hr Yoga Teacher certification from Sacred Seed Yoga in 2015, 95hr Certified Children’s Yoga from Semperviva, and Yoga for the Special Child®. Alana also holds her Bachelor of Child and Youth Care (BCYC), is a highly trained Behaviour Interventionist, and has been working in special education for over 10 years. Alana is passionate about developing programs that empower the authentic self, fostering a lifelong sense of wonder and true belonging in the world.
Katie is a co-founder of EMPOWER and founded Studio 202 to bring inspiration to the community through movement, meditation, breath & art. Sharing yoga and mindfulness practices with children and families is close to her heart, as her mother taught her to meditation tools as a child - a life long gift! She encourages others to feel within, in order to be more present and loving with ourselves and others. Her classes are based on having fun with movement, while connecting to the breath to nourish the mind, body, and soul. Katie combines her joy of over 20 years of coaching, instructional design, and other experiences to her class designs. Katie holds her 200Hrs and Yin Yoga from Karma Teachers, Rainbow Kids Yoga, Braindance, and Khalsa Way Prenatal Kundalini + Craniosacral and Somatic Healing certifications, among others.
